Several national disability organizations today called on the Congress to approve a Fiscal Year 2007 Budget Resolution that includes adequate funding for key federal programs designed to help Americans with disabilities find competitive employment. The One Percent Coalition (OPC), Council of State Administrators of Vocational Rehabilitation (CSAVR), Network on Employment (formerly the Association for Persons in Supported Employment – APSE), and Inter-National Association of Business, Industry & Rehabilitation (I-NABIR) urged lawmakers to include more funding for three key programs – including Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), Supported Employment (SE) and Projects with Industry (PWI).

The One Percent Coalition today called on the Congress to enact legislation to alleviate the unacceptably high unemployment rate among people with severe disabilities. The proposed “Employer Work Incentive Act for Individuals with Severe Disabilities” – coupled with existing employer tax incentives – would promote employment of individuals with severe disabilities through Federal Government contracting and procurement processes.
